By 1893 interested residents in the Lacombe, Alberta region formed the Lacombe Agricultural Society to raise monies to develop fairgrounds and sponsor an agricultural fair for Lacombe. By 1907 the fair grounds were sold and the current location purchased. The Lacombe Agricultural Society, suffering from financial troubles, sold the off its fair grounds property, but continued to sponsor the annual agricultural fair. The Lacombe Fair Grounds Company Ltd. was created in 1924 to own and manage the fair grounds. In 1909 the first cattle sale was held at the fair grounds. In 1920, the Central Alberta Cattle Breeders Association was formed to promote those annual cattle sales. By 1954, all three organizations were suffering financial difficulties. In 1955, all three organizations were merged into the Central Alberta Agricultural Society, which continues to operate the agricultural fair and fair grounds
