August 8 – 10, 2014 was marked with the annual Maskwacis Samson Cree Nation Celebration. Located south of Edmonton, AB the location formerly known as Hobbema, AB was put directly in the spotlight to showcase the vibrancy of community, the wealth of history, the pride of a homegrown culture and above all else positive energy.
The community has collectively emerged from behind the tarnished shadow of the prior township namesake and reclaimed it’s glory under the traditional Cree name Maskwacis which means “bear hills”. With an emergence from a history plagued in negative response and reactionary policy in the media; the Maskwacis Samson Cree Nation have sought an aggressive path to instill and promote a culture of positivity and growth among themselves.
For every negative action it requires a counter active measure of twelve positives. August 8 – 10, 2014 began the journey to learn from and erase the missteps of the past and move boldly into the future; embracing and celebrating color, culture, diversity and unity. Enjoy this album and more as we will showcase each dance group and the activities in between. Enjoy all pictures my friends, my hope is that through sharing of this visual work will count as a positive and constructive step forward.
